My understanding of information technology is the use of technological equipment for providing, sharing and obtaining information. It is computers, Ipods, digital cameras, and cellphones.
This form of technology is seen everywhere you go, children are being taught to use them from an early age even the elderly generations are keeping up with it by having cellphones, ipods etc in fact itunes recently hit a milestone in their marketing and the man that bought the ten billionth song was a 71 year old retired real estate broker.
This technology is used in many Occupational therapy practices, whether it be rehabilitation of fine motor skills to enable a client to be able to text or use of online support sites for mental health patients.
However ethical implications do arise when it comes to disclosure of client information and photos because once something is online it cant be retrieved. This means that before placing any information online or in documents you must get informed consent.
When writing a blog like this we need to be aware of the the decisions we make online regarding professional and social conduct, in other words we need to be aware of computer ethics. (retrieved March 2010 from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_ethics)
When putting stuff online we also need to be aware of intellectual property which is whether or not we can legally put this stuff online. Many ideas and information is protected by intellectual property. This is more commonly known as plagiarism.
Social justice is to enable everyone to use the technology. It is equality of opportunity.
